Father Christmas is free with admission at Beale Wildlife Park on 10 December dates. Headley's Magical Christmas Adventure runs 28 Nov to 24 Dec. Dates here.

The simplest place to see Father Christmas near Newbury this year is Beale Wildlife Park at Lower Basildon, where meeting him is included in normal admission on ten dates in December, with 15% off December tickets. The biggest paid experience is The Magical Christmas Adventure at 4 Kingdoms in Headley, near Thatcham, which runs on selected dates from Saturday 28 November to Christmas Eve. Newbury town centre’s grotto moves to the Waterside Centre this year and opens on switch-on day, Saturday 14 November; its prices and later dates are not out yet.

Updated 3 October: Newbury BID has confirmed Santa will be in a “brand new grotto at Waterside Centre” on switch-on day, Saturday 14 November.

The quick answer

  • Beale Wildlife Park: 5 and 6 December, 12 and 13 December, and every day 19 to 24 December. Father Christmas is included with park admission (Beale Park).
  • The Magical Christmas Adventure, Headley RG19 8JY: 17 family dates from 28 November to 24 December, a 3-hour indoor experience with a private Santa visit (booking calendar).
  • Thatcham: Santa is at the switch-on and Christmas market, Saturday 28 November, 12pm to 7pm (Thatcham Town Council).

Beale Wildlife Park, Lower Basildon

Beale Park’s Christmas page says it wanted Christmas to feel “special, simple and welcoming for families, without lots of extra charges along the way”. So there is no separate grotto ticket. Father Christmas is there on:

  • Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December
  • Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December
  • Saturday 19 to Thursday 24 December, every day

He is there all day apart from a short lunch break. The park itself suggests avoiding 10am to 11am if you want a shorter queue, since that is likely to be one of the busiest times. December visitors get 15% off admission, and members do not need to book at all. Tickets went on sale on 3 September. Its opening times page gives only summer hours (March to November, 10am to 5pm), so check December hours when you book. Beale says more of its Christmas programme will be revealed “over the coming weeks”.

The Magical Christmas Adventure, 4 Kingdoms, Headley

This is a ticketed, timed experience rather than a grotto you drop into. It takes over 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park on Newbury Road, Headley, just over the Hampshire border about three and a half miles south-east of Newbury town centre, and the park is closed to other visitors while it runs.

According to its FAQ, the visit lasts about three hours: roughly 90 minutes of guided, theatrical storytelling, then a private visit with Santa in his cabin, then free time in “Sparkle Copse”, where children make a teddy, decorate a gingerbread biscuit and make reindeer food, and every full-price child ticket includes choosing a toy from Santa’s Toy Shop. It is indoors apart from the ride back on the “North Pole Express”. Parking is free.

Monday 14 December is an adults-only “Christmas Valentines” evening. The operator explains the ticket types: Classic sessions run between 9am and 4pm and Twilight after 4pm; Toddler sessions have a gentler storyline; the SEND session is slower, with lights and music turned down; and VIP adds a drink and treat, a VIP lounge, a goody bag and a family photo with Santa. Prices vary by day and time and are shown only once you pick a date in the booking system. Babies under a year need a discounted ticket.

Two things to know before you pay: tickets are non-refundable, and changing your date costs £5 plus any price difference. You also need to fill in your family’s details online at least a day before, so that Santa knows your children’s names.

In the towns

  • Thatcham, Saturday 28 November. Santa and the steam train are part of the combined Christmas market and switch-on on the High Street and The Broadway, 12pm to 7pm, free. See Christmas markets near Newbury.
  • Newbury town centre: a new grotto at the Waterside Centre, from Saturday 14 November. Newbury BID’s switch-on listing promises “the chance to meet Santa in his brand new grotto at Waterside Centre” on switch-on day, 10am to 7pm. It does not yet say whether there is a charge or which other days it opens. Last year the switch-on day had a Santa’s Grotto in the Kennet Centre, and Santa came back to Kennet Shopping on Saturday 13 December 2025, 10am to 4pm, free (Visit Newbury, 2025). The full switch-on picture is on Newbury Christmas lights.
  • Hungerford. Santa’s Grotto is part of the Victorian Extravaganza on the High Street, which was on Friday 12 December 2025 from 5pm, free (Hungerford Victorian Extravaganza). The 2026 date has not been published.

Also last year

Tiny Town Café ran Santa meet-and-greet play sessions on 13, 19 and 20 December 2025, from £4 (2025 listing). There is no 2026 listing yet.

For a grown-up alternative, Highclere Castle’s Christmas season runs from 18 November, and both pantomimes open in late November. Car parks are on parking in Newbury and closures on Newbury roadworks and travel.
